ORTHOBIOLOGICS
Advanced Minimally Invasive Therapies
Dr. Marc Gruner offers a wide range of advanced Orthobiologics procedures. These include the following: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Microfragmented Fat™, and Bone Marrow Therapy.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is one of several minimally invasive therapies in the burgeoning frontier of Orthobiologics. Platelets are essential to the wound healing process. By isolating growth-factor-rich platelets from your blood and injecting them into areas of soft and joint tissue damage, PRP has demonstrated promise in its ability to facilitate the recovery of joint issues and soft tissue injuries to muscle, tendons, and ligaments.
Microfragmented Fat™ uses advanced technology to harness the powerful reparative capability of your fat tissue, which is taken from the belly or flank (love handles). Fat has a high concentration of reparative cells and is used to aid in the healing process. The fat is used to provide cushioning, support the area of tissue damage, and help support the repair. The procedure can be conducted in approximately one hour in an outpatient clinical setting. It requires only local anesthesia and there is minimal recovery time. Microfragmented Fat is a great option for patients with multiple orthopedic ailments or issues. If the patient has sufficient fat, more tissue can be harvested and injectedinto multiple sites in the same setting. Microfragmented Fat is supported by robust scientific evidence; moreover, it is also being used at Walter Reed, Fort Belvoir, and other Department of Defense sites.
Bone Marrow Therapy is a promising advancement in orthopedics and sports medicine, emblematic of a new natural-based approach to treating orthopedic injuries including joint and bone issues. Unlike other invasive treatments, the recovery period with bone marrow therapy is often uncomplicated and brief. Bone Marrow Therapy is a viable therapeutic option for a number of orthopedic ailments, but it’s not for everyone. Patients with a history of lymphoma, leukemia, certain blood diseases, and multiple medical issues are often not candidates. During your initial consult, Dr. Gruner will comprehensively review your medical history and injuries with you to help assess if you’re an ideal candidate.
